February Prompt

For this second month of 2016 our prompt is second chances. Do your characters need a second chance with one another – were they in a relationship, or did they hook up, months (or years) ago, and now find their paths crossing again? Have they hit a rocky patch in a committed relationship and need a way forward? Do you want to focus on a smaller scene: a second try asking someone out? a second attempt at a date that had to be cancelled? a second try at a sexual activity that one or more partners failed to enjoy? If you enjoy writing parenting or pregnancy fic, perhaps your character, your pairing, or your poly family are trying for a second child, or getting a second chance to say yes to parenting (or re-evaulate whether parenting is a deal-breaker in the context of their relationship). Maybe the second chance is realizing a dysfunctional relationship isn’t what a character wants after all, prompting them to get out of a toxic situation.

Maybe this “second chance” doesn’t have to do with sexual intimacy or relationships at all and instead has to do with someone’s second chance at solving a case, winning a dream job, defeating the villains, being there for a friend. Perhaps the narrator of the story is not the one facing a second chance, but a support person standing in the wings for a friend who’s facing a decision or leaping into the unknown.

As with January, this challenge will be accepting contributions from all fandoms and at any length. The goal for the #TwelveInTwelve2016 challenge is to keep our creative juices flowing throughout the year whether that means a 500 word ficlet or a 50,000 word epic (although if you have the time and energy for 50k words per month I will be madly jealous of your generative capacity!).
